Vision: All pupils leave our academy physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.

Objective: To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in our academy against 5 key indicators:

  • The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity- kick starting healthy active lifestyles
  • The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
  • Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  • Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  • Increased participation in competitive sport

The academy will:

  • Provide opportunities for 30 minutes of physical activity each day
  • Wil give opportunities for pupils to participate  in a wide and varied range of sporting activities after school
  • Have qualified Sports’ Coaches to support lunchtime engagement with sports
  • Purchase additional equipment to support pupils’ engagement in sports both within lessons, at playtimes and after school
  • Engage with competitions and encourage pupils to participate

Swimming

By the end of Key Stage 2 children should be able to:

  • Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25m
  • Use a range of strokes effectively
  • Perform safe self-rescue in different water based situations

Additional swimming lessons for children will increase the percentage of children achieving the above objectives by the time they leave school in Year 6.
